Harmonious lighting accents in the single family home in St. Moritz (CH) 27. March 2023

The newly built single-family house stands in the sophisticated Graubünden mountain village of St. Moritz in a unique location in the forest, directly on Lake St. Moritz. Like a monolith, it blends unobtrusively into its surroundings. It was designed by the interior design firm bundi und bundi gmbh from Chur, with its many years of experience and eye for nature, architecture and interior design. The RIBAG luminaires MILUM, VERTICO and KIVO provide the harmonious and natural lighting accents, making light an essential part of the spatial aesthetics.

The large window fronts offer a breathtaking view of Lake St. Moritz and the Engadine mountains. Nature and architecture almost seem to merge. This direct visual contact with nature also had a decisive influence on the choice of materials for the interior fittings. The interplay of wood and stone spreads an authentic and natural atmosphere throughout the house. Sand-coloured oak planks were chosen for the floor and wall panelling, which radiate a harmonious warmth. The impressive and modern interior design is brought to life by a perfectly coordinated lighting concept. "We were happy to accept the lighting design challenge in our office," reports Bruno Bundi, Senior Advisor. "Various aspects influenced our choice of luminaires. We value simple, clean design that has been worked out down to the last detail. RIBAG luminaires have a clear design language, combined with state-of-the-art technology. We are convinced by the different designs in terms of size and surface finish as well as the precise light guidance and the pleasant colour temperature. With selected luminaire types, we wanted to optimally illuminate the various places and zones in the house," Bundi continues.

Atmospheric lighting helps to bring body and mind back into harmony. Directly above the whirlpool, natural light streams into the room through a large skylight. The graceful, black anodised VERTICO pendant luminaire with its classic and timeless design language sets targeted lighting accents above the drinking fountain in the wellness area and above the lavabos in the guest toilets. In the bathrooms, placed to the side of the mirrors, MILUM surface-mounted luminaires spread a pleasant, glare-free light.

In the living and dining area, the interior design office opted for a combination of black and white luminaires. Three KIVO pendant luminaires set characterful accents above the cooking island and ensure optimal illumination of the work surface. They are complemented by four KIVO ceiling luminaires, which extend from the kitchen into the living and dining areas and pleasantly accentuate the rooms. Above the dining table, bundi and bundi planned two black KIVO pendant luminaires, which bring brilliance to the table with direct and indirect light components, as well as providing pleasant ambient light.

In the area of the large window fronts as well as in the elevated living area, white KIVO pendant luminaires contribute discreetly, elegantly and effectively to the ambience. 

"As a senior at bundi and bundi Innenarchitektur, I have known RIBAG since it was founded by Heinrich Richner in 1994. The wall, pendant and ceiling luminaire "Trapez" was a sensation and revolution at the time. We used them everywhere it was possible. Then as now, the design, the perfect workmanship and the readiness to deliver are convincing. We also appreciate the ecological use of materials," Bundi concludes.
